You Ain't Surfers BLUEYONDER®

As a "Real Surfer" for the last 40 years, I believe that it's my duty to my Surfing Brothers and Sisters to correct a misnomer in use since Prodigy and Compuserve popularized the Internet.

"Surf's Up" means that the waves are good, not that nude pictures of J-Lo or Brittney have been posted online.

The terms "Surfers" and "Surfing" have been incorrectly used to describe individuals browsing the World Wide Web, and the activity of randomly following web site links that attract the interest or curiosity of the user.

Comparing this random activity to the sport and art of surfing ocean waves is not only inaccurate, but also elicits chuckles from all real surfers because of it's incongruity.

Surfing is about being completely in the moment in your body, experiencing life in the here and now.
The goal is to be in sync with the rhythms of the Ocean around you and to be at the right place at the right time.

Waves break according to hydrodynamic principles and the area where a wave can be caught is actually very small.
The surfer times his/her movements to coincide with the peak of the waves energy.

Internet browsing is about leaving your body for a world of the mind. It can be a mental escape into another reality, the accumulation of information, or just roaming around, to see what you might stumble upon.

The physical world takes a back seat to that of the mind as the viewer mentally ambles on over the next digital hill to see what's on the other side.

I hereby reclaim the Terms: SURF, SURFERS and SURFING
for their Rightful Owners; Those of us who have dedicated our lives to waxing up our boards, paddling out and riding waves.

Not to worry. We'll not leave you without an identity or a term that more correctly describes your activities.
It's the right thing to do and opens up the possibilities for a whole new line of marketing... uh, provided that you accept the terms of our licensing agreement and pay us hefty royalties.
